Gen Z's Shift: Prioritizing Social Activities or Making Money?

Before diving into earning money, many students, despite their busy schedules with studies, prioritize engaging in dozens of social activity projects to enrich their life experience.

Trends in Gen Z Social Experience

In today's fast-paced and highly competitive world, Generation Z, commonly referred to as Gen Z, is charting a unique path toward career development. Unlike previous generations, Gen Z places a significant emphasis on experiencing society and cultivating social connections before fully immersing themselves in the pursuit of financial gain.

By deliberately immersing themselves in various social activities, Gen Z individuals can ascertain their career goals with greater clarity. This self-reflection allows them to align their aspirations with their inherent interests, leading to increased job satisfaction and career success.

Minh Ngoc, a 21-year-old Gen Z student, enthusiastically shared her views on the subject, stating, "With the career I am currently pursuing as a teacher, the things I do in volunteer work and social activities are helping me focus on myself, improve my values, capacity, abilities, and experience. your teaching experience."

Sharing the same opinion, Huong Giang and Phuong Minh, both currently studying law and taking part in a lot of social activities, shared that through these activities, they encountered vulnerable individuals whom they want to help and protect. This has greatly inspired the current job they are pursuing.

Money or Social activities?

We all believe that social activities bring benefits; however, some students who have started working have different opinions. Thuy Tien, a 22-year-old currently working in communications at Oxbridge Education Group, shared their perspective on the influence of social activities on their career direction. She stated, "Social activities do not impact my career orientation. No one has asked me if I have participated in social activities before starting a job. At my age, I prioritize personal experience and particular jobs that help me progress."

Prioritizing social activities or making money?

Those who engage in social activities and those who prioritize investing in personal work experience all have their own opinions. Besides, recruiters also have different views and criteria for evaluating candidates.

According to Ms. Ngo Thi Ngoc Tram - Director of Operations & Business Development of HAN9 Office at Chubb Life Vietnam, social activities aren't required but are prioritized in interviews and recruitment as they aid in developing essential future work skills.

Another recruiter - Ms. Tu Thi Thuy, LnD Manager, believes the emphasis on social activities in recruitment depends on the company's specific needs. It's important to prioritize the requirements for the position but also consider a balance between social activities and personal experiences.
